Nestled in a nipaluna valley and drenched in the shadows of kunanyi, Rochelle is an indie-folk singer-songwriter who is just as likely to give life to the worlds and stories conjured in her mind as she is to observe and write about the world and wonder that surrounds her.
With broad listening habits, Rochelle takes musical inspiration from the likes of First Aid Kit, Missy Higgins, Billy Joel and Lizzy McAlpine to create musical vessels for her storytelling as she documents the tempestuous nature of time spent earth-side. With a knack for hard-hitting truths, and a tongue-in-cheek attitude, her music ranges from moody, melancholy moments of reflection to uplifting anthems that provide hope in a world on edge. Finding much inspiration from nature, and the intricacies and interconnectedness of its elements, Rochelle is often found relating this to her own experiences, which is evident in her evocative lyricism.
At age 16, with the help of an acoustic guitar gifted to her by her parents, Rochelle set off on the journey of a songwriter. Writing countless songs during her formative years allowed Rochelle to process the peaks and troughs of adolescence, and she very quickly fell in love with songwriting. Fast forward to the present day, Rochelle has studied music in Australia (University of Tasmania) and in the UK (University of Liverpool), shares her music live in venues around lutruwita, and releases studio recordings that are available on digital platforms and are played on local radio.
Her debut single ‘Other Side of the Waves’ was released in 2021, followed by ‘Five More Minutes’, and, most recently, ‘Fire and Flood’ (July 2024). Her debut EP ‘Old Flames Die Hard’ is set for release in September 2024 and is a musical manifestation of the difficulty in letting go.
